Property Damage Settlement Program

Projexis supported the management of the Deepwater Horizon Economic and Property Damage Settlement Program, one of the largest class-action settlements in US history, as a result of the BP oil spill.

The program was designed to reimburse those who have suffered economic damages as a direct result of the Deepwater Horizon incident, including loss of earnings, property damage, and clean-up costs.

Using system functionality, executive leadership implemented full operations for management of five vendors and a staff of over 3,100 team members. This included assisting more than 400,000 claimants from intake and processing of claims and distribution of more than $12 billion in claims.

Projexis supported the development of a risk mitigation strategy around claims processing, protection of personally identifiable information (PII), fraud detection and reduction, accuracy of claims benefit determinations, and other areas that facilitated internal audit, program controls, staff utilization modeling, and claims throughput modeling.

Using the software, the program was able to identify $1.23 billion in eligible projects within the first six months of the settlement program. This partnership helped the program to quickly and efficiently provide compensation to those who had been affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
